The Safe Steps Program - The Safe Steps Volunteer Screening Program is part of the Ontario Screening Initiative, and provides an easy to use method for organizations to ensure that the people they serve are safe.

The Best Practice Guidelines for Screening Volunteers: Finding the Right Match - The Best Practice Guidelines for Screening Volunteers: Finding the Right Match is a handbook distributed by Public Safety Canada in collaboration with Volunteer Canada that provides a guideline for agencies and organizations to develop volunteer screening practices. This handbook focuses especially on developing screening practices for volunteers working with children and other vulnerable populations.

HAV - Hamilton Administrators of Volunteers - The HAV has a variety of workshops and networking opportunities for individuals in the management of volunteers.

Volunteer Canada - provides information on volunteerism on a national scale. Has many resources for non-profit organizations, staff, and volunteers.

Other Resources

Library Resource Centre -- Volunteer Hamilton's Library Resource Centre is the largest and leading community resource centre on volunteerism in Hamilton-Wentworth. We have over 1,500 lending and reference resources available which include books, periodicals, reference, audio and video materials. A variety of subject areas are covered, from Board Development (roles & responsibilites, legal and financial issues) to Fundraising (proposal writing, corporate giving) to Volunteer Management (program development, evaluation).

Membership to the Library is included in the annual fee for member agencies. The name of the Co-ordinator of Volunteers is automatically added to the membership list. Additional memberships for other staff may be purchased for $5.00 per person.

Non member agencies and individuals may purchase a membership for $5.00 per person per year.
